Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Breckinridge County

HARDINSBURG, Ky.  (May 30, 2025) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a commercial vehicle in Breckinridge Co. Thursday afternoon that resulted in a fatality.  

On May 29, at approximately 2:00 P.M. CDT, KSP Post 4 received a call from the Breckinridge Co. Sheriff’s Office requesting KSP investigate a single-vehicle collision near the intersection of KY-144 and Cart Manning Crossing Road in Breckinridge County. 

The preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Robert Tropp, 44, of Jasper, IN, was operating a commercial tractor-trailer southbound on KY-144 when the passenger side tire left the roadway, causing the semi to exit the roadway down an embankment before striking a tree. Tropp was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breckinridge Co. Coroner’s Office. 

The affected portion of KY-144 was closed for several hours to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. KSP Post 4 was assisted at the scene by the Breckinridge Co. Sheriff’s Office, Breckinridge Co. EMS, Hardinsburg Fire, Payneville Fire, Webster Fire, Rhodelia Fire, Meade County EMA and Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office. The collision remains under investigation by reconstructionist Tpr. Tyler Lynch.
