Kentucky State Police Post 14: Celebrate Cinco De Mayo Safely

ASHLAND, Ky. (May 5, 2026) – As communities celebrate Cinco De Mayo, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 14 is reminding the public to make responsible choices and help prevent impaired driving on Kentucky roadways. KSP is joining Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort) on May 5, 2026.

This nationwide traffic safety initiative, organized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, is designed to reduce crashes by focusing on dangerous driving behaviors, particularly impaired driving. Operation C.A.R.E. enables participating law enforcement agencies to increase visibility through additional patrols and to deter unsafe driving through education.

• Make a Plan Before You Celebrate – Arrange for a designated driver or alternative transportation if alcohol will be part of the festivities.
• Step In and Speak Up – Never allow a friend or loved one to drive impaired. Help them find a safe, sober way home.
• Buckle Up Every Time – Seatbelts save lives and should be worn by every occupant, on every trip.
• Stay Alert to Your Surroundings – If you see someone driving recklessly or distracted, report it to your local law enforcement agency. You can find your nearest KSP post by viewing the Post Map on KSP’s website.

KSP’s mission is to improve public safety, maintain critical services and better reflect the diverse communities it serves through enforcement and proactive education. For more information about KSP’s commitment to creating a better Kentucky, visit the agency’s website.
