MADISONVILLE, Ky.<\/strong> (January 23, 2026)<\/strong> \u2013 The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 2, in coordination with the National Weather Service are advising residents of an approaching significant winter storm expected to impact Kentucky with snow and ice. A State of Emergency has been activated for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KSP urges citizens to prepare ahead of time and avoid last-minute preparations. Residents should use today (Friday) to stock up on food and essential supplies in the event of power outages or hazardous travel conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suggested emergency supplies include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Food and water<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Flashlights<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Extra batteries<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Candles<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Extra blankets<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Alternative heating sources<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please do not call 911 for road conditions, weather updates, or power outages. These calls can tie up emergency lines and delay response to life-threatening situations. 911 should only be used for emergencies. Emergency calls will be prioritized throughout the weekend, with critical incidents receiving first response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizens are strongly encouraged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary, especially as road conditions worsen. If travel is unavoidable, ensure your vehicle is equipped with a winter safety kit, including warm clothing, blankets, water, a shovel, and other emergency supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Check on neighbors, particularly the elderly or those living alone<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Bring pets indoors or ensure they have proper shelter during the storm<\/p>\n\n\n\n
