{"id":17506,"date":"2020-03-10T16:12:35","date_gmt":"2020-03-10T20:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.kentuckystatepolice.ky.gov\/?page_id=17506"},"modified":"2025-11-04T12:40:25","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T17:40:25","slug":"handlewithcare","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kentuckystatepolice.ky.gov\/handlewithcare\/","title":{"rendered":"Handle With Care"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group mainContent\">\n    <!-- Begin Main Content Block -->\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" title=\"Handle With Car Website Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.kentuckystatepolice.ky.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Handle-With-Car-Website-Photo-1-789x552.jpg\" alt=\"Handle With Car Website Photo\" width=\"789\" height=\"552\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Handle With Care<\/h2>\n<p>Handle with Care is very simple: law enforcement officers at the scene of a crime or accident identify children who have been exposed to trauma and notify the child\u2019s school.\u00a0 There is no information being given except the child\u2019s name, age and school.\u00a0 The notice is sent in a confidential email and\/or text notification to the child\u2019s school before the start of the school day with these three words: \u201cHandle With Care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The premise of Handle With Care is to mitigate the negative effects of trauma on children.\u00a0 In the event the child exhibits problematic behavior, the teacher has an early notification of possible exposure to trauma and may provide care and understanding versus discipline and punishment. Ask to speak to the Victims Advocate located at the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Provide an email address(es) and telephone numbers for notifications of the staff within your school that would like to receive the Handle with Care notifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once entered into the &#8216;Handle with Care&#8217; database, your designated school appointees will be notified when a child has been exposed to a traumatic incident that involved law enforcement.
